About SNAV
SNAV, Società Navigazione Alta Velocità, is a Naples company with its head office at the Stazione Marittima on Molo Angioino, a few steps from the Beverello pier its hydrofoils use. Founded in Naples in 1958 as a hydrofoil operator, it is today part of the MSC group of the Aponte family and runs hydrofoils, catamarans, fast ships and ro-ro ferries across the Mediterranean: the Gulf of Naples islands year round, the Pontine and Aeolian islands in season, and long routes to Croatia, Sicily and Sardinia. Booking sites sometimes list the Gulf services as SNAV Aliscafi; that is the hydrofoil branding of the same company.
The fleet
For the Gulf of Naples, SNAV's fleet is fast craft only: the hydrofoil Superjumbo with 284 seats, the catamarans Altair, Antares, Alcione, Aquila and Aries with 315 to 411 seats, and the monohull fast ferries Polaris, Sirius and Orion with around 650 seats each, all built for 30 knots and more. They are enclosed craft with aircraft-style seating, Wi-Fi and a small menu service on board; there is no vehicle deck on the Procida hydrofoils, so SNAV is a foot-passenger choice. The ro-pax ferry Aurelia and the car-carrying Virgo and Don Francesco work the long-distance routes.
Routes to Procida
SNAV's Procida service is one line with two legs. Naples - Procida leaves Molo Beverello, the hydrofoil pier below Castel Nuovo, and takes around 40 minutes; with Caremar's ferries and hydrofoils the corridor adds up to about 20 departures a day. The same hydrofoil then continues as Ischia (Casamicciola) - Procida, a hop of 10 to 20 minutes into the north-coast harbour of Ischia, and returns the same way, so from Casamicciola SNAV is the fast way both to Procida and on to Naples. Sailings run every day of the year, several times a day on each leg; the day's departures are in the timetable.
Check-in, luggage and pet
SNAV's conditions for the Gulf of Naples ask every passenger to check in at the ticket office and collect a boarding pass at least 30 minutes before departure, at Beverello as at Procida and Casamicciola; keep an identity document to hand, because it can be requested at boarding. Hand luggage is one piece of at most 50 x 35 x 20 cm and 9 kg; anything more or larger needs a luggage ticket, bought with the booking or at check-in. Small and medium-sized pets travel with a ticket, a veterinary health certificate and proof of parasite treatment; dogs wear a muzzle and lead, and very large animals can be refused. Passengers with reduced mobility book assistance in advance through SNAV's PMR form.
Tickets
SNAV sells online, in its app, at its ticket offices and through the booking links on the route pages of this site. The fare is per leg and per craft; students, families, commuters and groups have reduced tariffs, and the Procida landing tax comes on top. Cancellation and changes follow a sliding scale: the earlier you cancel, the larger the share refunded, within a few hours of departure nothing is returned, and pre-sale fees are never refunded. The current amounts are on the prices page.
FAQ SNAV
Frequent questions
Questions and answers about SNAV and its Procida hydrofoils.
Which routes to Procida does SNAV sail? +
One hydrofoil line with two legs: Naples - Procida from Molo Beverello in around 40 minutes, continuing as Ischia (Casamicciola) - Procida, a hop of 10 to 20 minutes into the north-coast harbour of Ischia. Both run every day of the year; the sailings are in the timetable.
SNAV hydrofoil or Caremar ferry from Naples? +
The SNAV hydrofoil leaves the central Molo Beverello and saves about 20 minutes; the Caremar ferry leaves Calata Porta di Massa, takes about an hour, costs less and takes vehicles. Wind can suspend the hydrofoils before the ferries, and each carrier decides its own sailing.
When do I have to check in? +
At the ticket office at least 30 minutes before departure to collect the boarding pass, whether you leave from Beverello, Procida or Casamicciola. Keep an identity document to hand; it can be requested at boarding.
How much luggage can I take on the hydrofoil? +
One piece of hand luggage of at most 50 x 35 x 20 cm and 9 kg per passenger. Anything more or larger needs a luggage ticket, bought with the booking or at check-in. Racks are tight, so travel light.
Are pets allowed on board? +
Small and medium-sized pets travel with their own ticket, a veterinary health certificate and proof of parasite treatment; dogs wear a muzzle and a lead. Very large animals can be refused. Assistance for passengers with reduced mobility is booked in advance through the SNAV PMR form.
What does a SNAV ticket to Procida cost? +
The fare is per leg and higher than Caremar's ferry fare on the Naples corridor; students, families, commuters and groups have reduced tariffs, and the Procida landing tax comes on top. The current amounts are on the prices page.
