The crossing, sorted by starting point
Procida is the smallest of the Gulf of Naples islands and the closest to the mainland. Ferries and hydrofoils reach it from two mainland ports and from neighbouring Ischia, all running year round with a dense schedule. One thing to settle before anything else: for most visitors the car stays on the mainland, because the island bans non-resident vehicles from late March to mid October. Procida is a walking island; the crossings below are best compared on time, price and departure point.
Naples - Procida, the main corridor
The classic approach, and the one with the most departures. Caremar car ferries take about an hour from Calata Porta di Massa; Caremar and SNAV hydrofoils do it in around 40 minutes from Molo Beverello. Between them the corridor sees up to 20 departures a day. The two piers sit on different sides of the port, so check which one your ticket names. Details on the route page.
Pozzuoli - Procida, the short hop
From Pozzuoli, west of Naples, the Caremar ferry crosses in about half an hour, and it is the cheapest way to the island. Caremar is joined by Medmar and local operators on dates that vary by season. Pozzuoli is easy to reach on the Naples metro and suburban rail, and it is the natural port if you arrive by car: park here and walk on board. More on the route page.
Ischia - Procida, the island hop
Procida sits directly on the lane between Ischia and the mainland, which makes the island hop trivially easy: from Ischia Porto the crossing takes about 25 minutes, from Casamicciola as little as 10, with Caremar ferries and SNAV hydrofoils sharing the schedule. The summer extras
Between spring and early autumn, seasonal lines widen the map to Sorrento, Capri, the Amalfi Coast and the Flegrean coast. Their dates, operating days and sales channels differ, and not every route appears in the large booking platforms. Which ferries run to Procida?+
Three corridors run year round: from Naples (about an hour by car ferry, around 40 minutes by hydrofoil, up to 20 departures a day between Caremar and SNAV), from Pozzuoli (about 30 minutes by ferry, the cheapest way over) and from Ischia, both Ischia Porto and Casamicciola, from 10 minutes. In summer, seasonal lines add Capri, Sorrento and the Amalfi coast.
Can I bring a car to Procida?+
Only with a good reason. Procida bans non-resident vehicles from landing every year; in 2026 the ban runs from 30 March to 15 October, with exemptions for disabled travellers and for people who own or rent a home on the island. Outside those dates cars travel on the Caremar ferries. Most visitors park on the mainland, the island is small enough to walk.
Which pier in Naples does my boat leave from?+
Naples has two departure points and they are not next to each other. Car ferries leave from Calata Porta di Massa, hydrofoils from Molo Beverello below Castel Nuovo. Your ticket names the pier; allow 15 to 20 minutes on foot between them if you mix them up.
Ferry or hydrofoil, which should I take?+
On the Naples route, the hydrofoil saves roughly 20 minutes and uses the more central pier. Caremar's conventional ferry fare is lower, its ferries offer open decks, and fast craft may be suspended first. Compare the actual sailing and terms.
Can I combine Procida with Ischia?+
Yes, Procida works well as a stop between Naples and Ischia: arrive from Naples, hop to Ischia from the same harbour later, from 10 minutes to Casamicciola. Tickets are sold per leg; there is no through-fare, so book the two crossings separately.
