Getting to the piers in Naples
Both departure points sit on the city's harbour front, but not together. Molo Beverello, the hydrofoil pier, lies directly below Castel Nuovo, ten minutes on foot from Piazza Municipio and its metro station. Calata Porta di Massa, the car ferry quay, is a kilometre further east inside the port, with its own gate on Via Nuova Marina; a free shuttle and taxis cover the stretch, and walking takes 15 to 20 minutes. Alibus route runs via Piazza Garibaldi by Napoli Centrale to Immacolatella/Porta di Massa and then Molo Angioino/Beverello. If you arrive by train, board at Piazza Garibaldi and get off at the stop for the craft named on your ticket. Allow a traffic buffer before check-in.

Check-in and boarding
For foot passengers this is an easy route: buy online or at the pier ticket booths, then follow the carrier's check-in time and boarding instructions. Vehicles, where permitted, use the lanes at Porta di Massa and may have an earlier deadline. Bring the documents named in your booking.
On board
The Caremar ferries are working coastal ships: open decks with the classic view of Vesuvius as you leave the harbour, simple lounges, a bar counter on most sailings. The hydrofoils are enclosed fast craft with aircraft-style seating; luggage racks are tight, so travel light or check the operator's baggage rules when booking. An hour on deck versus 40 minutes behind glass is as much a style question as a time question.
Vehicle, bike and on foot
Cars and motorbikes travel on the Porta di Massa ferries at fares by vehicle length, but mind the island rule: from 30 March to 15 October 2026, non-resident vehicles may not land on Procida at all. Outside the ban, book the vehicle slot ahead; space is modest. Bicycle acceptance, fees and capacity vary by carrier and sailing, so confirm them before booking. Foot passengers are the overwhelming majority on this corridor year round.
Arrival on Procida and onward
All boats land at Marina Grande, the island's one working harbour. From the quay you are in the middle of things: the bus terminus, taxis and the walk up towards Corricella all start at the waterfront. Nothing on Procida is far; the far end of the island is under an hour on foot.

Fares differ by craft: the hydrofoil costs a few euros more than the ferry, and a small landing tax and online booking supplement are added to Procida tickets. Naples - Procida is the main approach to the island, shared between Caremar, whose car ferries leave from Calata Porta di Massa, and the hydrofoils of SNAV and Caremar from Molo Beverello. The ferry takes about an hour, the hydrofoil around 40 minutes, and between them the corridor sees up to 20 departures a day, year round.
The choice is a straightforward trade: the hydrofoil buys you 20 minutes and the more central pier, the ferry is cheaper, calmer in a swell, has open decks for the view across the gulf and takes vehicles, which matters mainly outside the island's seasonal ban on visitor cars. Conventional ferries may continue after fast craft are suspended, but the carrier decides each sailing.

Where exactly do the boats leave?+

How many departures are there?+

Can I take my car on this route?+
Only outside the seasonal ban and only on the car ferry. Procida bars non-resident vehicles from landing between 30 March and 15 October 2026, with narrow exemptions. If your travel falls inside that window, park in Naples or Pozzuoli and cross on foot; the island is compact and walkable.
Do the boats sell out?+
In high summer and at weekends, yes, especially for the evening hydrofoils back to Naples. Book the return leg as soon as you know it. Outside peak times, buying on the day at the pier is usually fine.
